5 QUESTIONS with Pierre Thiebaut from WhiskyConnosr

How old were you when you had your first sip of Whisky?
I was a teenager on a canoeing trip and I remember drinking some
Glenmorangie 10 year old sitting outside our tent near the water. I
didn’t like the taste of the whisky but I still remember the whole
experience as being very exciting, partly because I knew we’d get in
trouble if we got caught.

Best whisky you have ever had? Where and when?
That’s a really difficult one to answer because I’ve had the
opportunity to taste so many whiskies I wouldn’t normally be able to
afford to buy. I recently tasted Glengoyne 40 year old which was
pretty special – it was at the distillery during an event we running
there. Of the more every day whiskies, that are in my price range, my
current favourite is Miyagikyo 10 year old which is amazing.

There are so many great smells in the whisky world, which is your favorite?
I love the vanilla notes you get from American white oak casks. But
for me it’s all about complexity and balance. It’s the combinations of
aromas that really get me excited.

What is your favorite whisky and food pairing?
Whisky and cheese is a winner – blue cheese and a good smoky Ardbeg is
great but there are so many other great combinations.

Do you have a favorite post you’d like to share with our readers?
We have just published the latest issue of our online magazine Connosr
Distilled
which we’re pretty proud of.

Pierre also did a very detailed video review of Villeroy & Boch Gourmet Whisky Glasses which goes into detail about how the shape and size of a glass really makes a difference in the whisky taste. We hope that his sophisticated point of view has inspired some of you to explore the wonderful world of whisky.

Prost!
