With Thanksgiving around the corner, being prepared is an entertainer’s best defense. Right about now, I’m thinking about stocking my pantry with gourmet olives and nuts, yummy and quick go-to nosh that I can pull out at a moment’s notice. My bar is soon to be stocked with the essentials. And my linen closet is close to ready with a few sets of ironed linens, candles of varying sizes and dried flowers. Being prepared with all the right serving pieces is just as important. Now is a great time to do a kitchen inventory and figure out what you will need to entertain with style and ease.
Question #1: Do I have enough platters and bowls for side dishes, buffets and cocktail parties? If you are reading this blog, then we’ve all answered together, it’s never enough! How we love our fellow china gurus! Serving pieces are a great way to add style without investing in a new pattern. And are also a fun way to break out of the mold and shake it up a little by mixing the formal with the casual, the modern with the classic, the florals with the checks. When it comes to serving pieces, use what you love.
While serving pieces are essential to entertaining, I use mine on a daily basis. I even store all my leftovers in Villeroy & Boch porcelain. The next day, when I open my fridge, I see leftovers in a beautiful bowl, I want to eat it. I never use plastic containers because it just doesn’t look appetizing. In a beautiful bowl, leftovers look loved and ready to eat.
Below are some of my favorite serving pieces for holiday entertaining.
